So, you want the full story...
Hey there, I’m Tyler Powers, That Attorney Guy!
I grew up in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, where I met my wife, Kylie. I graduated with honors from the University of Idaho in 2016 with a double major in Political Science and Spanish. After graduation, my wife and I moved across the country in my little Honda Civic, with our dog, Dinka, so that I could attend Boston College Law School. After a few years in the big city, we returned to Idaho to start our careers and family.
Our family has grown significantly since we moved into our home in 2018. We have two joyful and chaotic boys, and my animal-loving wife has added cats, chickens, and more dogs. Whenever the weather allows it, we are out in the backyard playing games, gardening, or exploring new places as we scout locations for my wife’s business, Kylie Powers Photography.
I also LOVE sports. I wake up early on weekends to watch Liverpool F.C. and coach both of my sons’ teams at their local club. I have also enjoyed or frustratedly suffered through almost every Denver Broncos game since I was a kid.
My legal career started in 2016 as a Deputy Prosecutor for Canyon County. I spent three and a half years prosecuting all types and levels of criminal offenses. While my wife was pregnant with our second in the fall of 2019, I was consumed with prosecuting a double murder trial. Shortly after the sentencing for the murder convictions, I was in another big trial. I realized that the schedule and stress of prosecution would be difficult to balance with my soon-to-be family of four.
In February 2020, I moved to the civil division at Canyon County then to the Boise City Attorney’s Office in December 2020. While at Boise, among other things, I advised the local housing authority on compliance with federal regulations, landlord-tenant disputes, employment matters, and administrative procedures, I drafted agreements with creatives addressing intellectual property concerns for the Arts and History Department, and I drafted and reviewed various forms of contracts and associated loan documents involving the construction of affordable housing for Housing and Community Development.
My diverse experience has prepared me to handle a wide range of legal needs with the knowledge and abilities to get the job done. In the past 3+ years at the City, much of my work involved contracts - contract drafting, review, compliance, and disputes. I have experience with construction contracts, residential/commercial leases, copyrights/licenses, service agreements, funding/loan agreements, rental agreements, purchase/sale agreements, operating/partnership agreements, grant/subrecipient agreements, and more! Whether you need something to get your small business started, or your business is up and running with more sophisticated needs, we can work together to draft the right agreement for you!
While good representation will help prevent and avoid many conflicts, sometimes you need an attorney to help resolve a dispute. With extensive litigation and courtroom experience from my time as a Deputy Prosecutor and Deputy City Attorney, you won’t need to search for an easy resolution or be intimidated by the threat of trial, because your representation is ready, willing, and able to see your case all the way through!
Conflicts that require a legal advisor are sometimes unavoidable, and those who are self-employed or running a business are required to deal with legal concerns to ensure compliance and avoid the risk of being fined, sued, or shut down. Legal needs are so inherent to our daily lives that everyone deserves to have access to a capable and affordable legal advisor. I started That Attorney Guy PLLC to utilize my experience as a resource for creatives, entrepreneurs, and those who may not otherwise be able to access knowledgeable legal services without the price tag and formality of a fancy law firm!
